Doesn’t it look drab and dreary outside?  If you are like me, you need some flowers, and you need them bad!  Well, I can’t make the snow go away and the Spring come any faster, but I have a site where you can go and download some wallpaper for your computer that will give you some nice photos of flowers to look at in the meantime.

The site is from Waterloo Gardens, a wonderful garden center to visit if you are ever in the Philadelphia, PA area.  The gift shop alone is worth the visit!

To download a photo for wallpaper, left click on one of the resolution numbers below the picture you like.  When the picture comes up, right click on it, and save as background.

Just Back From Columbus

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

We are just back from the winter trade show held by the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association (also known as the CENTS show).  We use this opportunity to look for more goodies to add to the line up we have for you this Spring.  We have some pottery and some landscape quality trees and shrubs we think you will like very much!

This weekend was a wintery blast after the rest of the season that has been very mild.  Even though the winter has been easier to put up with than usual, I’m still looking forward to the Spring and all the potential it brings with it.  This may be the year I finally succeed in keeping up with my perennial gardens, beat the deer,  and finally harvest enough tomatoes to can and make the wonderful recipe a friend shared for spaghetti sauce.

Rain No More

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

The rain has turned to snow, thank goodness.  Now we have to put up with slippery roads instead of flooding.  Is this an improvement? Hmmm…

Shall We Start Building the Ark?

Drippy.  Wet.  Rainy.  Muddy.  Whew!

The rain has been falling now for several days, and the creeks are rising.  Here at the Garden Center and at our house we are on high ground, but I worry about our friends in the flood plains when it rains this long.  I hope it will stop soon, or at least it will change to snow.  (Eek– who would have ever thought I’d say that– I hate snow!)

We are closed today in honor of Martin Luther King Day, but we’ll be open again tomorrow and back to work on the register/computer system and the ordering for spring.  We’ve got some neat things coming for you.   Watch the web site for more information as it becomes available.

It’s Been a While, But I Am Back!

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Well, time got away from me there.  We have been installing a new computerized register system since mid November, and my poor brain is frazzled by the end of the day and unable to give this blog the attention it deserves.  But I am back now.

The new register system should make checking out at Ferda’s quicker and easier once we have it all up and running smoothly, but it has taken us longer to get the data into the system than we expected.  Thanks for bearing with us through the bumps!

Did you all see the article that The Times Leader did on Scrapbooking, using our Scrapbook Shop as a visual example?  It was in the Sunday edition of the paper on January 7th.  Our thanks to Paula Ginther and the T-L editorial staff for such a great write-up! We’ve had calls about our classes as a result of the information included in the article.  Call for more information.
