DIY? How About GIY?

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

You’ve heard of DIY, (Do-It-Yourself) of course.  Now we have GIY, Grow-It-Yourself.

The Grow-It-Yourself movement moves to the forefront to deal with the issues we are facing for the next year (at least):

1.      The safety of our food supply in light of recent “food scares”.

2.      Cutting back our spending in ways that make sense.

3.      The health problems associated with the consumption of too much pre-packaged and fast food (food allergies and obesity among them.)

4.      Our carbon footprint, which deals with how far products have to travel and how much fuel is used to transport them to the markets where we shop to buy them.

We think these issues are very important, and we know you do, too.

Our plans for spring of 2009 include additions to the varieties of modern and heirloom vegetable plants that we will be growing for you, as well as the number of fruit varieties that you’ll find here.  You’ll find organic fertilizers and remedies to offer you a safer solution for what ails your plants. (We will also still carry the chemical solutions.)  We’ll have information available in the store and online to help first-time food gardeners be successful.
